Is Big Hair the New Long Hair?

At the many curly gatherings I’ve attended over the past two years, a trend has emerged. While long hair was once heralded as the ultimate in sex appeal, it’s all about big hair these days. Nothing says confidence like a head of big, luscious coils.

A decade ago, many curly girls wanted to devolumize their hair. The goal was to make the hair smaller and flatter, whether through flat irons or chemicals. Even when wearing the hair curly, it was uber-defined.

No more. The bigger the better. Two or three times a day, I toss my hair upside down and rough it up with my fingers to make it as big as possible. Rather than hiding from our hair, we want it to have its own zip code!
