What is natural hair?
That was the question that was posed to me by a magazine editor who is writing an article trying to define it.
There are so many possible definitions.

No chemical relaxers
Wearing your hair in a natural style
Not changing your natural texture in any way
No chemicals of any kind, including color

Is the term “natural hair” limited to women with only coily hair? Is it a term that can be used for women of all ethnicities, with all textures? If I were to define it, I would say it was hair that has not been chemically relaxed. The more I thought about it, the more I realized there is no one answer, and trying to come up with one definition probably isn’t necessary or positive. Why should people be put in a box and judged based on specific criteria?

It’s exciting that we’re having these conversations – something that wouldn’t have happened 15 years ago.
